Saw this film in 84 when it came out, i was 15. It was the talk of the school next day and it was terrifying. Now i have watched some real nasties over the years, even texas chainsaw massacre when i was about 10 and nothing shocks anymore, you become resistant to it. But there is a real chance that a war could break out, where as your chances of encountering a family of blood crazed lunatics running round with fuel driven garden tools is pretty slim, and unlikely. Bear this in mind, there is nothing scarier than reality.

This movie gave me nightmares for YEARS!! [this & ‘Threads’ in the UK] I’m very glad that both of those movies were made, so people could see what can happen [& still could]!!!

I'm convinced that this movie, and especially the ending inspired the tone of Fallout. (Also shutup about my username, it has nothing to do with this movie, I swear)

When this movie came out I was in college in ROTC training to become an Army Officer, it was all I dreamed about and I was a big Reagan fan and all we thought about was war. This movie seemed so real to us, but we stayed focus. I also like the little conference they did after to movie with Carl Sagan. But the war never happened and when I graduated in the Winter of 1985 and in January 1986 went into the Regular Army at a 2nd Lieutenant, there was no war and the Soviet Union eventually broke apart and the Russians we trained to fight became allies, but here we are in 2024, and I bet people just joining now are again training to maybe someday fight the Russians. History repeats 😎
